For the first time in the Premier League, the referee of the Crystal Palace and United match is wearing a head camera

Jared Gillett, the referee of the match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United in the English Premier League on Monday evening, will wear a head camera, as league officials announced.

The English Premier League said in a statement: “In the first Premier League match, referee Jared Gillett will wear a camera during the Crystal Palace match against Manchester United today, Monday, May 6.”

The Premier League confirmed that the camera footage will not be broadcast live, but rather will be used as part of a program that will be shown later in the year, which aims to “provide further knowledge and education about the requirements of refereeing” in the Premier League.

Gillette will wear a head-mounted device as part of the referee communications system for major matches.

The one-time use of the camera has been approved by sports regulators, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), as well as the English Premier League, professional match referees and the relevant clubs.
