The pink card will appear for the first time in Copa America. What are the details?

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) confirmed that the pink card will appear for the first time in the 2024 Copa America competitions, which will be held next June in the United States.

The Spanish newspaper "Marca" reported that the pink card will be used to notify, after informing the referee or fourth official, of a possible change by the team due to a suspected head injury or concussion.

She continued: “When a concussion substitution is used, the opposing team will automatically have the possibility of making an additional substitution.”

The Federation’s Directorate of Competitions and Operations announced that a possible sixth (or seventh) substitution will be added to prioritize the health of the players.

For its part, the Spanish newspaper “AS” explained that “this substitution may only be made once for each team, in addition to the five substitutions that can be made during the 90 minutes (or six in the case of extra time).”

She added: “The player who has been substituted may not return to the field of play again and will go to the locker room and, if necessary, to a medical center.”

The Copa America tournament will start on June 20 and end on July 14.
