Manchester United star ‘desperate’ to stay at club schedules talks with hierarchy over his future

After all signs pointed towards him leaving Old Trafford last summer, Harry Maguire is reportedly keen to avoid a similar situation this time around.

The Manchester United star is on the back of a resurgent campaign in Erik ten Hag’s sophomore season, having fallen significantly out of favour when the Dutchman started his tenure in 2022/2023.

Alas, this term’s debilitating injury crisis led to Maguire being called upon almost weekly. For reference, he made 16 starts across all competitions last season and 25 over the past nine months, as well as a further six off the bench, while fitness issues ruled him out of 17 matches.

His fellow centre-half counterparts Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans will be leaving the club when their contracts expire in June, meaning reinforcements must be acquired over the forthcoming transfer window to bolster the position.

Maguire seeking clarity over his future

When Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. begin drawing up their plans for how Ten Hag’s backline may look after the summer, Maguire, who has one year remaining on his contract, wants to ensure that he’s a part of that. Reports claim that the England international is ‘desperate’ to stay at United for the foreseeable future and has scheduled talks with the hierarchy to discuss his situation.

Until then, the 31-year-old has chosen to skip a family holiday to report early for international duty in hopes of recovering from injury in time to feature at the Euros, which kicks off on June 14.
